Dataset Title
Prairie Water Wetland Survey - Water Chemistry
Additional Information
Abstract
The Prairie Water Wetland Survey (PWWS) is a prairie?wide survey of pothole wetlands. It contributes to biogeochemical objectives related to Prairie Water?s Wetland theme, specifically Phase I Work Package 3.1. The field campaigns began in 2018 and was intended to measure water chemistry (e.g., nutrients, physicochemical variables) of prairie pothole wetlands across the Canadian Prairies. The dataset contains two years of data (2018 and 2019) and spring and summer sample campaigns for each year. The dataset consists of a series of related spreadsheets that describe the analytic parameters, and site-specific details (e.g., location, surrounding vegetation, physicochemical parameters), which can be related using a series of unique identifiers. The dataset contains nutrient chemistry, specifically nitrogen and phosphorus of various fractions.
Purpose
Prairie Water is an interdisciplinary project that prioritizes research to address pressing water security challenges and knowledge gaps in order to enhance the resilience of prairie communities. The project?s objectives and research plans are informed by working with partners from governments, communities, non-profit organisations, and industry groups.
The dataset contributes to work package 3.1, B(ii) under Phase II of Prairie Water, and contributes to the objective of understanding broad spatial patterns of nitrogen, phosphorus, and other chemical parameters across pothole wetlands in the Canadian Prairies.
Plain Language Summary
The Prairie Water Wetland Survey (PWWS) is a prairie?wide survey of pothole wetlands across the Canadian Prairies. The dataset contains two years of data (2018 and 2019) and spring and summer sample campaigns for each year. The dataset documents for these periods water chemistry, such as nitrogen and phosphorus and various respective chemical fractions, as well as other properties, like pH, conductivity, chlorophyll, and sulfate concentrations. The dataset consists of a series of related spreadsheets that describe the analytic parameters, and site-specific details, which can be related using a series of unique identifiers.
